Hypnosis*, also referred to as hypnotherapy or hypnotic suggestion, is a trance-like state in which you have heightened focus and concentration. Hypnosis is usually done with the help of a therapist using verbal repetition and mental images. When you're under hypnosis, you usually feel calm and relaxed, and are more open to suggestions.
Hypnosis can be used to help you gain control over undesired behaviors or to help you cope better with anxiety or pain. It's important to know that although you're more open to suggestion during hypnosis, you don't lose control over your behavior. READ MORE >>
Having been involved in the recovery business since 1988 I watched with growing concern as the use of opioids as an ‘automatic go-to’ for ANY type of pain became the norm. Personally, I have suffered lower back pain since my early 20’s when I had one too many car accidents and know first hand what chronic pain is. I became active in exploring alternative ways to manage my pain without the use of drugs. But I also became aware that it can be quite an expensive road that often yields to zero results.
Then I went to a hypnotist to stop smoking – and it was successful. I kept thinking: if this can help chronic (ab)users of substances as addictive as tobacco, why not pain meds? And, if it can re-direct the neurons in my brain that have an established pathway for years – to a NEW pathway that doesn’t include smoking, why not with other habitual thinking processes?
This seemed a perfect fit for me as, in running two successful Women’s Sober Living homes and being the chair for the Sober Living Coalition of Ventura County I am a voice for those already struggling with a drug problem.
I got certified in hypnotherapy and went on to study under well-established hypnotherapists such as Dr. Bunny Vreeland, Shelly Stockwell-Nicholas and Richard Nongard to name a few. I got certified in Pain Management by Seth Deborah Roth, who is not only a CRNA but also the President of Hypnotherapy for Health and became a member of the International Hypnosis Federation.
It has been exciting and enriching for me to be a part of helping those who wish, to empower themselves with the skills necessary to set in motion a different path. A path of their own making. Because – it is never too late to be who you always wanted to be!
